I've been going to yoga and riding my stationary bike at home. I still haven't done any running.
I've had a sore leg for about a month and I'm waiting for it to go away but it's getting worse. Does anyone know what it could be or what type of therapy I could try? It's my left leg just to the left of the shin. It's the area between the shin and the muscle. It hurts all the way down but mostly up toward the knee starting about 3 inches down and mostly concentrated for about 8 inches. Locate that spot on your leg and tell me what that part is so I can google it. Sometimes my feet goes numb at night and it seems like it's all related.
I've tried massaging it and it hurts to the touch like it's bruised but it's not swollen or bruised.
Exercise doesn't bother it at all but I haven't tried running, just stretching, yoga and the bike.
Please let me know if anyone knows what that part of the body is called.
Also I've been chasing after two tiny 4 week old puppies. They are so cute. I wish you could all play with them! No we are not keeping them, just fostering them until they are strong enough and old enough to be adopted.
XOXO
I emailed Jody and Michele for their ideas for you and your sore leg. If I don't hear from them, I'll call them Friday afternoon. xxoo
ReplyDeleteHi Sky,
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have shin splits to me. Shin splints are caused when the muscle next to your shin gets stronger at a faster rate than it should. This usually happens when you do too much exercise too fast.
The way to get rid of shin splints is painful, but worth it. Deep massage works really well (around the spot that hurts). Ideally you want to break up the knots that are in your muscle. Ice also helps reduce the swelling. Your muscle is inflamed, but you just can't see it. I would freeze water in a paper cup and tear the paper cup away as you ice and massage your leg at the same time. Do this for ten minutes at a time.
After your muscles start to feel better, you'll need to strengthen the muscles around your shin, so this doesn't happen anymore. Take a dish towel and lay it on the floor. Sit in a chair with both feet flat on the floor and gradually scrunch up the towel with your toes and spread it out again (still with your toes and feet flat on the ground). When you do this the muscles around your shins will get stronger.
Another thing you can do to strengthen these muscles is to sit in a chair and tap the front of you foot with your heel on the ground.
Make sure you only do this after you have massaged all the knots out of you shin...
Let me know if you need any other help. Hope you feel better.
Those puppies are so cute. I think fostering puppies is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI hope your leg feels better soon.
